Dear Paul: Every year our condo corporation holds a Christmas party for unit owners. Some residents do not want us to call it a Christmas party anymore because several of our owners are not Christian. What should we do?
PN: This can be a delicate issue when people start disagreeing over the name of a religious celebration. I would suggest that unless your corporation is directly affiliated with a particular religious organization that it should remain as neutral as possible. If changing the name of the gathering to something more neutral will keep the peace, then do it. Is this not the season when we wish for peace on earth and goodwill to all people. Ask your non-Christian neighbours what they would like. Christmas has become so commercialized that most people celebrate the spirit of giving and getting together with family and friends regardless of their beliefs. Peace!
