Dear Paul: Is there any rule that limits the number of units in a building that can be rented by owners?
Paul replies:
Dear E.B.: Thank you for your question. I will assume that you are not referring to Airbnb or VRBO short-term rental arrangements. The Manitoba Condominium Act not only allows unit owners to rent their suite, sec. 212 of the Act states that: “A condominium corporation, or its declaration or by-laws, must not prohibit the rental of a unit by a unit owner.” Therefore, if a majority or even all the owners in your building decided to rent their suites it appears that they could do so unless there is a change in legislation.
